I love everything Allende writes be it fiction or nonfiction。 This book， full of her many stories and musings is phenomenal。 A mix of her personal stories with the plight of women and our equality and issues over the years makes for a great read。 Bravissimo！

in qualsiasi lingua la si legga questa scrittrice attraverso la sua leggerezza e l’ironia， mette in mostra argomenti forti e pungenti colpendo il centro del problema， Nei suoi testi Isabel Allende ha sempre inserito i fattori autobiografici che ci facevano empatizzare con le sue storie， ma questa volta ha superato tutte le aspettative。Devo ammettere di averla letta per la prima volta in italiano， di solito mi procuro i suoi testi in lingua spagnola， ma questa volta il testo mi è stato regalato; in qualsiasi lingua la si legga questa scrittrice attraverso la sua leggerezza e l’ironia， mette in mostra argomenti forti e pungenti colpendo il centro del problema， andandolo ad evidenziare sin dalla prima pagina。In questo libro non ci racconta solo del suo passato， ma anche di quello， che per certi versi， potrà essere il futuro del nostro mondo， se la visione di alcune società non dovesse progredire; ci racconta del suo istinto di ribellione e di come la vita da “signorina per bene” le andasse stretta， lei che aveva un animo da rivoluzionaria， i suoi primi accenni ad azioni femministe e il suo difficile percorso come scrittrice seria。 I suoi occhi ci mostrano quello che ancora oggi non va nelle società di tutto il mondo， le donne che non si sentono sicure quando camminano per le strade di ogni città; perché sì， non importa che tu viva in America， in Cile o in Europa， se sei donna non ti senti al sicuro a stare da sola per strada。 Non importa certo alla società che continua ad alimentare una mascolinità tossica， aggravata dall’esposizione mediatica e dai social。 E non importa quanti anni siano passati dall’inizio di questa lunga lotta， le donne non saranno mai al sicuro finché ci sarà ancora qualcuno che crede di essere in diritto e di essere nel giusto a possederle con la forza; che tu sia donna o semplicemente che tu non rientri nella classificazione di “normalità” delle società ti verrà posta costantemente la stessa dolorosa domanda: “cosa indossavi quando è accaduto？”。“Il patriarcato si impone con aggressività， esige obbedienza e punisce chiunque osi sfidarlo”Molte volte quando si legge un libro， si guarda un film o si ascolta il telegiornale si può pensare che quelle cose possano essere troppo distanti da noi， che a noi non potranno mai accadere， ma Allende parla di situazione che ormai possiamo vedere aprendo una finestra， avviando la bacheca di Instagram o semplicemente aspettando il treno in metropolitana。 Non ci serve più andare così lontano， non serve più pensare: “ma lì c’è una dittatura， tutto è permesso！”， ora per vedere queste mostruosità ci basta guardare nel nostro giardino nazionale; non servono più i film per immaginare situazioni di questo genere di brutalità， ora tutto ciò è all’ordine del giorno。La cosa che spaventa di più？ A nessuno importa， oh no， mi correggo。 A nessuno importa finché non diventa troppo evidente， a nessuno importa finché non diventa la scusa per farsi belli e dire: “non si fa！ È sbagliato！” poi il resto dell’anno si può tornare ad avere paura per noi， ed è qui che la scrittrice cerca di urlare a gran voce。 È sull’indifferenza che Isabel Allende urla， quasi pregando di non voltarci， di unirci a lei nel dire basta， di non arrenderci， perché il mondo deve cambiare e perché non partire proprio dall’educazione？ Quale educazione？ Quella del rispetto per il corpo femminile， quella per il rispetto della persona e quella che apparentemente dovrebbe essere scontata: l’educazione sessuale。Ma voi ve lo immaginate un modo dove i contracettivi femminili fossero accessibili an tutti？ Un mondo dove ogni donna possa decidere se portare avanti o meno una gravidanza？ Ve lo immaginate un mondo dove gli uomini smettano di fregarsene， smettano di non usare le protezioni， un mondo dove gli uomini smettano di provare a convincere le donne a non proteggersi？ Ve lo immaginate un mondo dove non è la donna a pagare per la stupidità maschile， un mondo dove non “sei tu che ti sei fatta mettere incinta”， ma è LUI che ti ha messo incinta， perché non è stato attento？ Io non riesco a immaginare un mondo così avanti， perché vedo ancora troppa indifferenza。Allende ricorda che agli inizi della sua carriera era rilegata a semplice scribacchina solo per il fatto di essere donna， e che solo dopo essere stata investita dell’onorificenza del “Premio Nacional de Literatura” le fu riconosciuto un minimo di rispetto dalla critica e dai suoi colleghi uomini， la cosa triste è che ancora oggi accade questo in molti altri campi lavorativi， una disparità che lei sperava sconfitta ormai。 Ci parla delle donne che ha conosciuto nel corso della sua vita， di come abbia affrontato la nuova concezione di sessualità e di genere， per lei che viene da un passato dove tutto ciò non si poteva neanche immaginare， ci parla di come i suoi figli e i suoi nipoti l’abbiano aiutata a capire queste forme di amore。 Ci parla di una delle più difficili forme d’amore che lei abbia conosciuto: quello per sé stessi， nella giovinezza e sì anche nella vecchiaia， perché in fondo è con noi stessi che dobbiamo convivere fino all’ultimo attimo。“Si trattava di un groviglio di complessi; mi sentivo brutta， impotente。 invisibile， prigioniera di un presente mediocre e molto sola。 Non facevo parte di nessun gruppo; ero diversa ed esclusa。”Questo libro è un inno alle donne， scritto da una delle più grandi scrittrici degli ultimi cinquant’anni。 Un inno per le donne， ma anche per gli uomini， perché in fondo quante di noi non conoscevano già tutte le realtà raccontate in quelle pagine， perché in fondo non siamo noi a dover essere educate su come comportarci e su cosa siamo libere di volere， ma loro。 Sono loro a dover essere educati。Attraverso un viaggio di decenni ci racconta degli orrori dello stupro， delle violenze alle quali sono state sottoposte le donne e alle quali è stata data la colpa facendole credere le artefici delle loro stesse disgrazie， perché se nasci donna “te la sei cercata”。Allende ci educa a urlare contro le molestie， a riconoscere un abuso e ci ricorda che noi siamo le vittime， non i carnefici。“Ricordati che gli altri hanno più paura di te” 。。。more

Isabelle Allende， the novelist， has been a favorite since “House of the Spirits”。 This book introduced me to Isabelle the Feminist and I love her even more。In someways， we put authors in a mythical category-forgetting that behind all those good novels it’s a life story that might be equally compelling。 A wonderful mix of personal anecdotes and feminist history told from the perspective of a woman who has lived a rich and interesting life。 Loved it。

La verdad es que me disfruté bastante este libro。 Es cautivante， no podía dejar de leerlo。 Fue una aventura que te atrapa， te arropa， te desvela y te encanta。 Se sintió como haber caído justo en el ático de Allende， tomando una taza de café。 Acompañarla mientras recuerda sus inicios y hace sentido de sus años， se lleva una la impresión de estar frente a un ser humano excepcional， en una atmósfera de comprensión， sabiduría y un urgente sentido de justicia global。 Me encantó conocer esas mujeres d La verdad es que me disfruté bastante este libro。 Es cautivante， no podía dejar de leerlo。 Fue una aventura que te atrapa， te arropa， te desvela y te encanta。 Se sintió como haber caído justo en el ático de Allende， tomando una taza de café。 Acompañarla mientras recuerda sus inicios y hace sentido de sus años， se lleva una la impresión de estar frente a un ser humano excepcional， en una atmósfera de comprensión， sabiduría y un urgente sentido de justicia global。 Me encantó conocer esas mujeres del alma de Allende， quienes la forjaron， la inspiraron y la impulsaron， y que ahora también forman parte de mí。 Indiscutiblemente Allende es un ícono feminista， y fue realmente enriquecedor escucharla defender y presentar el mismo desde sus vivencias y con sus palabras; pero más que esto， es ella un faro de esperanza para sus lectores en Latinoamérica， y todas las personas cuyas vida Allende ha tocado con sus palabras， su historia y sus acciones。 Esta lectura es reconfortante， pero confronta， intentando disipar la apatía y el conformismo。 Este libro es un soplo de aliento， ánimo y vida。Sin embargo， aunque entiendo que está escrito en un estilo informal y a modo de conversación， repasando sus pensamientos e historias， me hubiese gustado una mayor organización y coherencia。 También se hubiese beneficiado de notas al margen para poder apoyar muchos de sus puntos （por más auto-evidentes que sean） y para investigar， aprender y reflexionar más profundamente。De todas formas， quedé complacida con mi primer libro de Isabel Allende， de tal forma que leería de nuevo en un futuro （cosa que no acostumbro a hacer）， y me motivo a continuar ahora leyendo sus obras， amadas y aclamadas。 Solo queda dar las gracias por poder adentrar tan profunda e íntimamente la vida de esta tenaz mujer。 。。。more
